Prepare connected devices

Check receipt printers, label printers, and Bluetooth barcode scanners before the event.

Choose hardware for the job

Receipt printers print orders; label printers identify products. Whether one device supports both depends on protocol and paper. GoodsBar keeps separate defaults for receipts and labels. These screenshots explain setup only: discovery does not prove connection or successful printing. Verify paper alignment and output on your hardware.

  1. Open print settings

Open Print settings from Settings, or the printing-device entry in the toolbox.

    Open print settings
  2. Check supported models

Open the supported-model list and switch receipt/label tabs. Distinguish tested, worth trying, known unavailable, and unsupported models.

    Check supported models
  3. Verify label support separately

On the label tab, check your exact model and intended use. Receipt connectivity does not imply label support.

  4. Load appropriate paper

Use continuous paper for variable-length receipts or an offered gap-label size preset for labels. Load the roll and close the cover.

Tips

  • Check separate defaults; physical width, printable width, and DPI depend on the model.

Add, connect, and select defaults

Choose manufacturer channel first, then printing purpose. HPRT, Dothan, and generic channels are not interchangeable based on appearance. Generic receipt and label modes use their respective protocols. A switch or sent message does not prove paper output.

  1. Choose connection category

Add a printer, choose HPRT / Dothan / Generic for the actual model, then continuous receipt paper or preset gap-label paper. For labels select the paper preset.

    Choose connection category
  2. Scan and pair

Power on the printer, scan, grant requested permissions, and select your nearby device. A successful connection automatically makes it the default for this purpose.

  3. Check a saved printer

Use Connect printer when disconnected. To switch, set the target device as default, then test the connection.

  4. Remove unused configurations

Delete an unused printer and confirm; add it again later if needed. Check that it is not the active event's default.

Tips

  • Connect to your own device and retest after changing purpose or paper.

Test and calibrate output

The test receipt contains borders, rulers, multilingual text, barcodes, and QR codes. Fix clipping before position and clarity. Advanced settings follow that device for template and order printing; available parameters differ by model. Change only relevant settings.

  1. Print a test receipt

Check both borders, ruler dimensions, text clarity, and scan the code area with a phone.

  2. Adjust position and quality

Use horizontal/vertical offsets in advanced settings. Supported Dothan models offer density and speed; try slower speed for unclear output. Change a little at a time and compare the same test page.

  3. Check generic protocol settings

For ESC/POS, check paper width, DPI, printable dot width, orientation, and cutter; investigate segment height, packet size, and interval for transmission issues. TSPL offers density, speed, direction, mirroring, and transfer settings for the label printer.

  4. Test real content

Print a long demo order and a product label. Scan the label and confirm it matches the intended product.

Tips

  • Treat label positioning and continuous-paper length separately. Free can calibrate with built-in templates; real-order printing and template editing have premium limits.

Automatic printing and retries

Receipt printing enables the POS action; automatic printing sends a job on completion. Disconnecting temporarily prevents automatic printing but preserves preferences. Pending jobs stay on this device. Retrying does not collect payment again.

  1. Enable receipt printing

Enable receipt printing and optionally automatic printing, and ensure the default receipt printer is connected.

    Enable receipt printing
  2. Choose retry behavior

Choose confirming each job or automatic retry after reconnecting. Per-job confirmation helps on printers without cutters.

  3. Handle pending jobs

Open pending prints in POS, reconnect, check order numbers and already printed paper, then confirm retry as prompted.

  4. Save a digital receipt

Use the completion screen to save/share the PNG through the system sheet without a printer. No new order is created.

Tips

  • Pending jobs do not migrate in a full backup. Pair scanners through the system, not the printer list; see product scanning.
