Create your own receipt template

Templates lay out order information; printer settings choose hardware. Connect a default receipt printer and use a compatible template. Built-in templates are read-only: duplicate before editing, or create from the default template or a blank canvas.

  1. Open receipt design

Open Print settings → Receipt template design, or the toolbox entry.

    Open receipt design
  2. Duplicate or create

Duplicate a built-in template or create from default/blank. Built-in elements, layers, and asset actions remain read-only until working in a copy.

    Duplicate or create
  3. Set paper properties

Check paper width versus printable width. Choose auto-fit content or fixed length; automatic length suits varying order sizes.

    Set paper properties
  4. Save and name it

Save and rename with size/use, such as 57 mm — everyday receipt. Reopen it in custom templates. Save before making it default.

Use canvas, layers, and properties

On iPad, select an element on the canvas or layer list, then edit its properties. Fit to screen gives an overview. Undo/redo handles edits, not restoration of a deleted template. Phone tools are in an expandable bottom drawer.

  1. Add an element

Choose text, price text, date, QR, barcode, image, shape, or line in Elements. Adjust spacing for whitespace. The new object and its properties appear.

    Add an element
  2. Set position and size

Edit X, Y, width, and height in millimeters. QR uses a single size to stay square; image resizing preserves aspect ratio.

  3. Align and transform

Align left/center/right or top/middle/bottom against the paper, then rotate, mirror, or duplicate as needed. Move duplicates to avoid overlap.

  4. Arrange layers

Select overlapping objects in Layers, move up/down a layer, and use the eye to hide/show. Locked system-managed elements cannot be selected, hidden, or reordered.

    Arrange layers
  5. Delete an element

Verify the selection and delete from properties or layers. Duplicate first if keeping a copy; undo immediately after a mistaken edit.

  6. Inspect the canvas

Zoom, show rulers, and fit to screen to inspect boundaries. Use undo and redo for edit mistakes.

Bind order data

Bind fields such as order number and amount rather than typing fixed values. Editor data is a preview. Default receipt templates use a dynamic product list; eligible totals/footers can follow its height. Position behavior is available only with supported dynamic-list templates.

  1. Choose a data field

Select text or a code and bind shop, event, order number, pickup code, time, payment, product summary, quantity, subtotal, discount, tax, paid total, or note. Real order data replaces previews when printing.

    Choose a data field
  2. Enter fixed text

For a slogan or URL, choose unbound and enter content. Bound content fields cannot be edited directly.

  3. Configure product summaries

Choose name/price/quantity or name/quantity with prices hidden.

  4. Set dynamic positioning

For a supported dynamic list, set totals or footers after it to follow the product list; use fixed position for titles/decorations. If absent, check the template type rather than looking for the switch on a blank canvas.

  5. Choose the code's purpose

Bind an order QR to order content, or use a fixed promotional URL. A promotional QR is not proof of payment.

Tips

  • Bind tax, discounts, and paid total separately. Test both short and long orders.

Style text, images, and codes

Fit text to paper width and keep it legible; enable wrapping for long names. Thermal output is monochrome, so compare photo/logo processing on real paper after previewing.

  1. Choose text styles

Start with small, body, bold body, heading, or large heading, then adjust font, size, and weight.

  2. Adjust text layout

Set line/letter spacing and alignment, enable wrapping, and optionally reverse white-on-black. Verify reversed output on thermal paper.

  3. Process images

Choose black-and-white, diffusion, or halftone, and whether the image participates in layout or overlays it.

  4. Use the asset library

Add the built-in GoodsBar logo with its plus button. Upload your own logo, border, or pattern from photos to the library, then add it to the canvas. Removing a library asset does not delete elements already placed.

    Use the asset library
  5. Style shapes and lines

Set line width and, for shapes, fill. Use outlines or solid blocks and arrange layers to keep text visible.

  6. Configure barcodes and QR

Choose a barcode format compatible with the content, bar width, and readable text; set QR error correction. Leave quiet margins and test scan. EAN/UPC have length requirements and cannot arbitrarily replace Code 128.

Preview, set default, and manage templates

Saving stores a design; making it default selects it for future orders. It must match the default receipt printer. Deleting a custom template is immediate and cannot be undone; copy important designs before major edits.

  1. Open print preview

Use the top printer icon. Check device, paper, copies, orientation, and offsets; supported models also offer density/speed.

    Open print preview
  2. Print a sample

Start printing and check borders, wrapping, fields, and QR. Return to edit and save any corrections.

  3. Make it default

Save, then set as default. Resolve incompatibility by changing paper or the default printer. Check the default badge.

  4. Verify with an order

Complete a demo order, print or save its digital receipt, then reprint from history to compare data.

  5. Check printer and template defaults

Check both at the top. Use advanced settings for device parameters; add a printer first if missing. Switch receipt/label purpose at the top to inspect each separately.

  6. Remove old templates

Select an unused custom template and confirm deletion. Built-ins cannot be deleted. Element undo cannot restore an entire deleted template; keep a saved copy first.

Tips

  • Save or explicitly discard before leaving. Labels have their own default template.
